Ladies and Gentlemen, Writing Through Brambles have been chatting with you about parenting and writing for a whole year! Can you believe it? That’s roughly 52 posts, about 78,000 words, and so many hours editing and formatting to bring you information that will uplift, inspire, and make you smile.
We feel so honored and blessed that you guys check in every week with us, so we wanted to do something fun! With all of our firsts and favorites, we want to wish you a very Merry Brambles Christmas. Join in on the fun by picking a letter for yourself and tell us about one of your firsts and/or favorites from 2018 using #writingthroughbrambles!
Marlena Money created the beautiful cover art for Beyond Instinct.
Editing became a problem of the past, mostly. We all pushed ourselves harder than ever as we wrote and edited several new stories. For Amanda, it was the first time she mustered up the courage to cross from drafting to editing. Big steps, guys!
Reunion! Between us all, we have 17 (going on 18) children! That means hectic family schedules and life events. Combine that with the distance between us, we don’t get to see each other as much as we would like to. But in February 2018 we were all blessed to be in the same place at the same time! We ate at CHOM Burger and played games into the night. The laughing was endless.
Rachel Huffmire pitched her story Shattered Snow to two Publishing Houses. Only one came out on top!
You all brought our tribe together, growing our subscribers so more of you can get bonus information and treats just for being wonderful! We love you, we wouldn’t be here without out you!
Bree Moore had a whopping year of publication and writing. She published 2 short stories and 1 novel leaving her word total at a combined total of about 130k published words this year.
Random Research: Some things researched this year included snakes, which herbs can be used during pregnancies, and what German door knobs were like way back when.
Acquisitions Editor of the Year… goes to Rachel Huffmire who landed the job mid-year with Immortal Works.
Motherhood: this year Bree Moore, Marlena Money and Rachel White celebrated motherhood in the coolest way by publishing their short stories featuring these ultimate heroes in the Beyond Instinct anthology.
The Blood Mirror- Marlena Money’s Favorite book of 2018. The last one in the Series comes out next year!!
LTUE 2019 gained one awesome group of Panelists! Together we will be talking about Fantastic Writing Groups and Where to Find Them. We have been brainstorming about everything Writing Group related and we’d love to know if you have any questions we can answer live and in person in February 2019?
Every word counts: We love long stories, we love short stories. This year Bree Moore wrote her shortest story (a pretty decent feat for her) by publishing Shifted, which is less than 6k words. Marlena Money wrote 300k this year, a lot of which came from her love of roleplaying!
Social Media. It’s a crazy world out there, but for some of us, this was our first year with a serious presence on social media. You think it would be easy. Media is fun, socializing is fun, but it’s actually pretty tricky.
Chocolate, Cocoa and Cold Cereal, and Costa Vida were all top snacks during the Drafting and Editing process for the Bramble Girls this year. Other honorable mentions are almonds, olives, and dessert waffles.
Home is where your roots grow. Rachel, Bree, and Marlena all made big moves this year, which is so exciting as their lives and families are growing. One of those moves may or may not have been into a haunted house, but you didn’t hear it from me.
Release Day Parties: Rachel W and Marlena got to be apart of their very first release day party where they talked about their experience in writing the short stories that will be a part of the anthology Beyond Instinct.
In a single year, Bree WROTE AND PUBLISHED Bound (along with two other short stories). What she didn’t do was sleep ;)
Staying up late: Sometimes Rachel White stayed up late to make deadlines, sometimes it was because of babies, and sometimes it was for the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!
The Hate U Give “Strong Language. Super important message.” -Rachel White’s favorite books from 2018
Making Spaces for writing: This year Amanda and Rachel H. were both blessed with new writing spaces. This can be a big deal for writers, to have a place they can make their own and helps them get in the zone.
A time for writing alone, and a time for writing together. Writing might often be an isolating hobby, but several times we helped get each other through crunch time by teaming up and writing together via Discord and Hangouts. If you’d be interested in joining us for a write-in, leave some love in the comment section down below.
Storymakers Conference 2018. Our other favorite Conference is Storymakers. Many of us have attended in the past, but this year Rachel White braved the conference alone 35 weeks pregnant. These are the lengths this Super Mamma will go to bring you great content!
Thank you again for being the greatest clan! We appreciate all the interactions and support we have gotten from you this year. If there is anything you’d like us to talk about next year comment below. Also, don’t forget to share one of your firsts or favorites from 2018 with us using #writingthroughbrambles!
We're all writers, we're all moms, writing our way through the "brambles" of life and our stories.
